Adoniram Judson

bereit sind zum sterben" – natürlich in Englisch (How Few There Are
Who Die So Hard!).
"I have now to ask whether you can consent to part with your daughter
early next spring, to see her no more in this world ? whether you can
consent to her departure to a heathen land, and her subjection to the
hardships and sufferings of a missionary life? whether you can
consent to her exposure to the dangers of the ocean; to the fatal
influence of the southern climate of India; to every kind of want and
distress; to degradation, insult, persecution, and perhaps a violent
death? Can you consent to all this, for the sake of Him who left His
heavenly home and died for her and for you; for the sake of
perishing, immortal souls; for the sake of Zion and the glory of God?
Can you consent to all this, in hope of soon meeting your daughter in
the world of glory, with a crown of righteousness brightened by the
acclamations of praise which shall redound to her Saviour from
heathens saved, through her means, from eternal woe and despair?"
www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Biographies/1528_How_Few_There_Are
_Who_Die_So_Hard/
Besonders eindrücklich sind auch seine Anweisungen für
Missionskandiaten.
Dort findet sich unter anderem der Gedanke:
"First, then, let it be a missionary life; that is, come out for
life, and not for a limited term. Do not fancy that you have a true
missionary spirit, while you are intending all along to leave the
heathen soon after acquiring their language. Leave them! for what? To
spend the rest of your days in enjoying the ease and plenty of your
native land?"

Hervorheben möchte ich die Vorträge von Hans Rossling: - Unveiling the Beauty of Statistics - www.gapminder.org/video/talks/unveiling-the-beauty-of-statistics.html - A Slum Insight – (90 MB) www.gapminder.org/GapminderMedia/GapTools/Awalkintheslum2006/ASlumInsi ght.zip - Debunking myth about the "third world - www.gapminder.org/video/talks/ted-2006---debunking-myth-about-the- third-world.html

J.ih.ad – The future in the face of militant I.s.lam" (Baranabas Books; 2007; ~ 15 £) Ivar Hellberg (Cranfield Uni) hat drüber geschrieben: "P. Sookhdeon has written another bookt of great scholarship and clarity, wich examines the roots and nature of I. J. and the long war that lies ahead. P. S. is a man uniquely qualified to explain to the reader what lies behind the resurgence of militant I. fundamen.talism and how the West should respond. This important book is most strongly commended to everyone who wants to understand the nature of the I. threat we face. Internationally renowned author, professor and pastor, Henri Nouwen wrote more than 40 books on the spiritual side of life before he died in 1996. This beautiful, free booklet is adapted from his passionate lectures on the subject of fund-raising. It provides a thought-provoking and encouraging pers...

Three Iraqi Christians murdered as Islamic militants implement their threats to Iraq’s Christian community

Three Iraqi Christians were murdered last Sunday and two others were injured in two separate incidents in the city of Kirkuk. These attacks take place in a context of intense hostility to Christians from militant Islamists. The following has been posted on various websites: The General Secretariat of the Adherent of Islam Brigade has decided to address the final warning to ... the infidel Christian Crusaders ... and order you to leave immediately, in masses and permanently from the Muslim countries. There is no place for you infidel Christians among the Muslim believers in Iraq from now on. Otherwise, our swords will be legalized over your neck. The letter is part of a determined Islamist campaign to drive out the Christian community from Iraq. Although the Christians, as ethnic Assyrians, are the indigenous people of Iraq, Muslim extremists are trying to “cleanse” the country of their supposedly defiling presence. In the face of threats such as these, which are often followed through ...
