In Südpakistan heiraten Frauen den Koran

Sie gelten damit als verheiratet und dürfen keinen Mann mehr ehelichen

(Institut für Islamfragen, dh, 15.05.2007) Nach einem Bericht der arabischen Zeitung alarabiya.net soll das Phänomen des "Koranheiratens" in Südpakistan zugenommen haben.

Frauen werden dabei von ihren Vormündern (Vätern, Brüdern, etc.) gedrängt oder gezwungen, mit dem Koran eine Ehe einzugehen. Diese Heirat bleibt bis zum Tode der Frau bestehen. Die Frau darf lebenslang keinen Mann heiraten, da sie schon als "verheiratet" gilt. Männer ihrerseits hätten Angst, um eine Frau zu werben, so der Bericht, die mit dem Koran verheiratet ist, weil sie Sorge hätten, dadurch gegen den Koran zu agieren.

Allerdings sollen sowohl die pakistanische Regierung als auch einige muslimische Aktivisten versuchen, diese Art "Heirat" zu unterbinden.
