Pieter Pikkert hat seine Doktoralarbeit zum Thema „Protestant
Missionaries to the Middle East – Ambassadors for Christ or Culture"
im Mai 2006 beendet und dankbarerweise als PDF veröffentlicht

Darin untersucht er die geschichtlichen Veränderungen des Mittelmeerraumes durch die
Missionsbemühungen. Schon im Vorwort deutet er an, dass die heutigen
Missionare dieses verloren haben (…unzureichende Ausbildung; kein
Interesse). Gemeindemission ist das neue Bild, was Pikkert vermitteln
will – eben auch unter örtlicher Leitung mit einigen Überraschungen
für Missionare.
