A Letter From Z. To You

(A Young Local Believer Writes To Ask YOU to Pray!)

"Dearest brothers and sisters, friends!! I want to share good news with you and ask you to pray. First of all, I would like to tell you a story about my neighbor. Her name is D. She is Uzbek. Recently I found out that she is a Christian. I was very surprised, shocked and happy when I first heard her saying that she was a believer. As many of you know, Uzbeks are stricter concerning their traditions and religion. But of course nobody from her family knows about that. She says that her mother can even die if she finds out about that. Her cousin and his family live together. He is a very strict Muslim and D. says that he would not even talk to her because she doesn’t wear hidjab. If he finds out she converted he can even kill her.

But D. still reads the New Testament (the Injil) in secret. It was presented to the family by their foreign friends 7 years ago. That was the time when D. first heard about Jesus, and 5 months ago she accepted Him as her Savior. She attends church every Sunday now, but her parents think that she goes to work (she works as a hairdresser’s helper). Despite D.’s age (she is only 23) she has had a hard life. D. had an elder sister and several years ago she died in the fire. The family lost their daughter and their house and moved in with their relatives. As I already said D. is only 23, she is young, but for Uzbeks if a girl is not married by that age (usually the marrying age of the Uzbek girls is 16-18 y.) her relatives and neighbors call her a spinster and it is hard to get married at that age. It is also the reason for quarrels at home. But some time ago a man from Fergana, Uzbekistan came to ask the family to marry D., but her mother (D. doesn’t have a father) refused, because she didn’t want her only child to live that far. She did right, because after the refusal that man tried to do something bad with D., but God saved her. I almost cried when I heard the story and I was happy at the same time because she was saying that she found the real God and He saved her!!

I told her that her brothers and sisters whom she doesn’t even know will be praying for her. Right now D. is also praying God will send a husband who is a believer, because her family could find her a husband who is totally not what she wants. Can you pray for that too? I also want to find an older lady who speaks Uzbek to mentor her. She needs this fellowship, instructions and support. Please, pray so that He will send the right person. Love, Z."

The Paradox of Authority and Vulnerability - Andy Crouch

Andy Crouch 12min 50secs Authority - is the capacity for meaningful action Vulnerability - is exposure to meaningful risk (when something you care about is at stake / could be lost)   We often think they are opposites / but they are not We have been created to have more authority and vulnerability than any other creature There is a paradox that they go together at the moment of greatest flourishing in our lives A + V = Flourishing   1) High authority / High vulnerability - is flourishing -the path of a healthy, maturing life is from safety to flourishing -low authority / Low vulnerability - is safety (like a child) -the goal is to take more risk / more authority in the world       2) Low authority / High vulnerability - is suffering -vulnerability without authority - like we experienced in Covid -you're vulnerable, but no capacity to act -many people around the world only know this reality     -we then often dream of the other quadrant - to have con...
